Team Building Cooking Classes in Calgary

Bring your team together outside the office for an afternoon or an evening in the kitchen. Your group works through the menu together, learning new skills and building an Italian meal from scratch, then gathers as a team to enjoy what it made.

Why a Cooking Class Works for a Team

Most team-building activities ask people to perform in front of colleagues. A cooking class does not. Everyone is working towards the same thing with their hands busy, which takes the pressure off and gets people talking to colleagues they would not normally work alongside.

Sessions are led by Head Instructor Jennifer and the Stirring It Up team at the YW Calgary Community Kitchen in Inglewood, and built around your group: your headcount, your menu, your dietary needs, your schedule. They work best with 10 people or more. Planning a wider staff event, a holiday party, or a client evening? See our corporate events page . Want to try a class yourself before you book the whole team? Any of our public hands-on classes will show you exactly how an evening runs.

What to Expect

What the session is like in practice.

Everyone Gets Involved

This is an activity, not a demonstration you sit and watch. The group works together for the whole class.

No Experience Needed

Classes are relaxed and approachable, and set up so everyone can take part whatever their comfort level in the kitchen. Our team is on hand throughout.

Nothing to Organize

We provide the ingredients, equipment, instruction, setup and cleanup, and our staff run the room for the whole event. Your team just turns up.

How a Session Runs

A typical 2.5 hour class, start to finish. We can compress it for a lunch slot or extend it for an offsite.

1
Arrive, aprons on, drink in hand Around fifteen minutes to settle in, meet the team, and see the menu you are about to make.
2
Get hands-on The group works through the menu together and everyone is hands-on within a few minutes, usually alongside someone they do not sit near at work.
3
Cook, taste, adjust About ninety minutes of hands-on work, with our team demonstrating each step and moving around the room to help as you go.
4
Sit down and eat together Everything comes together and the team gathers to enjoy what it made. We handle the cleanup.

Team Building FAQs

How big does the group need to be?

These sessions work best with 10 people or more. Below that the room is quiet, and the per-person cost climbs, because the kitchen and the instructor cost the same whatever the headcount. If your team is smaller than that, get in touch anyway and we'll see what we can do, or look at booking seats together in one of our public evening classes .

Does anyone on the team need cooking experience?

No previous cooking experience is required. Classes are relaxed and approachable, and set up so everyone can take part whatever their comfort level in the kitchen. Confident cooks still pick things up along the way.

How long does a team building cooking class take?

A typical session runs about 2.5 hours from arrival to the end of the meal. We can shorten it for a lunch slot or stretch it for an offsite, so it fits the rest of your agenda.

Can you work around allergies and dietary restrictions?

Yes. Gluten-free, dairy-free, nut-free and vegetarian can often be accommodated. Send us the list when you book so we can plan the menu around it. Some menus have limits, so tell us early.

What will we cook?

Experiences include fresh pasta, ravioli, gnocchi, pizza, tiramisu and more, and the menu is customized to suit your team and the occasion. Tell us what your group would enjoy and we will build it around that.

Can we add food and drinks?

Yes. Depending on the package, your event can include appetizers such as bruschetta and charcuterie, non-alcoholic beverages, and alcoholic beverage options. Let us know what you have in mind and we will include it in your quote.

What does a team building cooking class cost?

Pricing depends on your group size, the menu, and how long you want the session to run. Request a quote and we will send a per-person price with everything included, no surprise add-ons.

What should the team wear and bring?

Comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes, with long hair tied back. That is it. Aprons, ingredients and equipment are all provided, and there is free parking on site.

How far in advance should we book?

Two to four weeks is comfortable for most groups, and longer for November and December, when holiday team events fill the calendar quickly. If your date is sooner, call us at 1-403-902-1509 and we will tell you what is still open.

Where are team building cooking classes held?

At the YW Calgary Community Kitchen in Inglewood, 1715 – 17 Avenue SE, Calgary, AB, T2G 5J1, with free parking on site. Ask us about custom arrangements for larger groups. Cancellation terms for team and private events are set out in the event contract, see our Policies & Refunds for details.
